Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
My name is Nia Nimmers. I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I attended Pepperdine University, where I double majored in Psychology, and Religion. I continued my education at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and received my Masters in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I started my career working with elementary-aged children in the school context. I loved spending time with the kids but found that I wanted to make a greater impact on the family through couple work. I continued my work at two different group practices in the DFW area. This is where my skill and passion for marital work grew and solidified. I specialized in both sides of the spectrum of couples; premarital couples excited about the start of their marriages, and high-conflict couples on the brink of ending their marriages. Nothing gives me more joy than to get to know couples, collaborate with them, and counsel them in the areas in which they struggle.
My passion is working to keep marriages and families connected. I am committed to serving and reigniting the joy of God’s institution of marriage. I love teaching couples communication skills, watching them reconnect, and helping them understand the union of marriage and what it was made for. My faith means the world to me. I was raised in the church and saved when I was 11. My passion to counsel and use the gifts God gave me came soon after. The Lord has continuously sanctified me and changed my heart through the years. I am grateful to be an instrument for change in the lives of other believers, I count it a great joy.
"Nia is a good listener and has very practice suggestions to address my felt needs."
"She's amazing. Attentive and truly cares. I always look forward to my sessions. It's been a blessing to have her. "
"She's really good!
I started marriage counseling for the same reason as many husbands: the wife says that she will leave if we don't."
"During our entire counseling journey, she did an amazing job of not picking a side, or showing any biases or opinions on who was 'right' during that interaction session."
"If you're looking for someone who is going to give you their undivided attention and gently guide you towards conflict resolution, Nia is the one for you. She has been amazing through some very difficult times in my life."
"Highly highly recommended, especially if you're looking for someone who can diagnose the issues, and help to introduce you to the exercises/practices to fix the issues in a lasting way, as opposed to just steamrolling in and dictating the issue and the fix."
"Nia always listened to me and gave me her undivided attention. I enjoyed the journal entries she would assign to me and she helped me get through some really tough times with my family. I would use her forever. She even remembers things I've told her in previous sessions. She is a great therapist!"
"I was expecting a female therapist to put me in my place and focus on 'breaking the cycle of patriarchy' and all that jazz. But no... Nia listened and observed us talking to each other. She didn't just jump out and say what was wrong, she would have us work on exercises that would address the structural issue in that observed interaction (whether it was a lack of listening, lack of empathy, or otherwise)."
